Irene, the princess of piano awarded by Napolitano (december 2008) – ENG
Sesto/Rome – The young pianist from Sesto Calende received the prize as the best student of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
On Thursday 11th December, Irene Veneziano, the pianist from Sesto Calende, received, in the beautiful Sala dei Corazzieri in the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic and directly by Mr Napolitano, the Prize “President of the Republic in memory of Maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli”, a prize which is yearly awarded to the best student of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Irene, who was simple and unaffected as usual, with a smile on her face, shared her dream and her pride with her family. Cultural ambassador of Sesto Calende, she asked, for the occasion, the presence of the municipal administration, represented by the deputy mayor, who presented the President of the Italian Republic with the volume “Researches owing to Sesto Calende, for A. G. Spinelli”, a nearly unobtainable book (published in 1880 with a print run of 300 copies), that the municipal administration of Sesto Calende has just reprinted.
It is a book about Sesto Calende and its people from the origins until 1859, where this town is described as a meeting place among different people, an area where, during many centuries, Celts and Romans, Lombard and Spanish met, get mixed, overlapped and complemented each other.

President Napolitano awards Irene Veneziano
Sesto Calende. On Thursday 11th December, Irene Veneziano, the pianist from Sesto Calende, received, in the beautiful Sala dei Corazzieri in the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic and directly by Mr Giorgio Napolitano, the Prize “President of the Republic in memory of Maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli”. The prestigious recognition is yearly awarded to the best student of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome.
Irene, who was simple and unaffected as usual, with a smile on her face, shared her dream and her pride with her family. The twenty-three year old pianist isn’t new to these recognitions: only this year on the 24th of June, she got her Diploma in piano specialization course at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, under the guide of Maestro Sergio Perticaroli, with top marks, and on the 16th of September she got the Diploma with “Master” and mention in Chamber Music at the Accademia Internazionale di Imola.
Cultural ambassador of Sesto Calende, she asked, for the occasion, the presence of the municipal administration, represented by the deputy mayor, Mr Claudio Carabelli, who presented the President of the Italian Republic with the volume “Researches owing to Sesto Calende, for A. G. Spinelli”, a reprint of the book published in 1880.

Irene, from the province of Varese to Rome with passion. President Napolitano hands her over the scholarship.
The province of Varese seems to be a lucky land for the music. Its pianists, in fact, keep on drawing attention to themselves. Such as Irene Veneziano, from Sesto Calende, 23 years old, graduated at Scuola Puccini in Gallarate with Maestro Massimo Neri. The meeting with the piano when she was a child, her first successes in national competitions and a top marks diploma, with honourable mention, then second rank in Venice prize, deserved to the best graduates in Italian music academies and, finally, the specialization studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Sergio Perticaroli. Next Thursday Irene is going to receive, in the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic, directly by Mr Giorgio Napolitano, the prize named after Giuseppe Sinopoli and deserved to the best graduated of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. Full marks here too. A short time ago, the young pianist from Sesto Calende got a second level diploma at the Conservatorio di Milano, with Edda Ponti, and the Chamber Music diploma at the Accademia di Imola, with the flutist Manuela Romanelli. In the meantime, little by little, her career is running away. Today, Sunday 7th December, she is going to play in Geneve in a recital which is joined to the success in the competition Jeudis du piano, on the 24th of January she is going to be guest of the Società Umanitaria in Milan with the flutist Anna Bazueva, and next summer she is going to play at the Festival des Serres d’Auteuil in Paris. We shouldn’t wait too long to listen to her in our province: on the 7th of February she is going to play at the Liceo Musicale in Varese.

Our notes from the Quirinal
Corrado Greco in concert and Irene Veneziano awarded by Mr Napolitano
Rome. The pianists from Varese conquer the Quirinal. It will be pure chance, or story secret courses which mingle to outline a destiny, but the coincidence is curious: in five days, two pianists from our province are going to come to the official residence of the President of the Italian Republic. Today Corrado Greco is going to be guest of the exhibition “Concerti del Quirinale”, in a recital with the violinist Rodolfo Bonucci, live broadcast on Rai Radio Tre, at twelve o’clock. Next Thursday, it will be the turn of Irene Veneziano, ready to be awarded by Mr Giorgio Napolitano with the scholarship named after Giuseppe Sinopoli, deserved to the best graduated of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia.
A double official investiture for a province which is really full of musical talents. Different stories, the one of Irene Veneziano, 23 years old, from Sesto Calende, and the one of Corrado Greco, born in Sicily and moved to Varese, with the common passion or, better, the dedition to the music. She is appearing to the crowded and chaotic survey of music concerts, after the diploma at the Scuola Giacomo Puccini in Gallarate, the specialization course at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, the second level diploma at the Conservatorio di Milano and the Chamber Music diploma at the Accademia di Imola. All top marks. Corrado Greco is a teacher at the Conservatorio di Milano and he boasts a solid career both as a soloist and as a chamber musician, he is keen on composition and electronic music and, since seven years, he has been organizing an interesting musical season at the Università dell’Insubria in Varese. They belong to different generations, but they have the same curiosity, the same broadmindedness: look at their up-to-date web sites.
At the Quirinal, Greco and Bonucci are going to deal with a particularly refined program, with the Sonata for violin and piano by Janacek as a highlight. For her part, Irene Veneziano will come back home conscious to be able to aim very high.
